Mirror Therapy

This Week

This week in BioMed, we focused on scholarly research. I started by researching the effects of diets on athletes' mental health and explored various topics on Google Scholar. Most of the results were initially broad, focusing on fasting and female athletes. Then, after refining the search to "nutrition in athletic performance" it revealed more relevant articles and resources. Google and Google Scholar provided both reliable information, while Google Scholar provided me with more specific information. I will use this research in preparation for my upcoming research paper.

The Lab

The lab this week was on mirror therapy. Mirror therapy tricks the brain with reflection, by looking at the reflection of the unaffected limb the brain is tricked. This allows for the patient to feel no pain or see any visual defects on their limb. It was very interesting to experience what it feels like to use mirror therapy. One of my classmates attested to the accuracy of mirror therapy. He used it when learning how to walk after a leg amputation.
