Circus Maladys

This week in Biomed, we presented our Circus Malady presentations. My presentation was on Progeria. We were required to present our slides in somewhat of a storytelling format. This was super interesting to me because not only was it entertaining, but it was easier to remember all of my material when I was presenting. All of my classmates' presentations were super cool too! I learned about diseases I had never even heard of before. My favorite was Arianna's, which was mermaid syndrome or Sirenomelia. This is when someone is born with thier feet combined, which makes them look like a mermaid. I thought her story was very entertaining, along with her information.

Rock Steady Boxing

Our field trip this week was to a Rock Steady class. Rock Steady Boxing is a non-contact boxing-inspired fitness program designed for individuals with Parkinson's disease, aiming to improve their overall health, fitness, balance, and confidence. We have one in Mobile, at Saad Healthcare. We were able to attend a class with real patients! This field trip was so much fun because not only did I get my workout in for the day, but I also was able to learn! Our teacher provided us with specific workouts and steps for each part. My favorite part was the last workout round, where he taught us a boxing combination. He gave us different numbers for each punch, and he would yell out different combinations of these numbers for us to practice. It was so cool to see how these Parkinson's patients can find joy in healthcare. At the end of the class, I was sweaty and gross!! Overall, I think this has been my favorite field trip yet!
