This Week!
This week in interventions, we learned about patient bed positions and Digital Object Identifiers. I wrote a 250-word paper about what a DOI is. A DOI is the unique string attached to any online article, book, or other work. It provides a permanent location for any online work, even if the URL is changed or modified. Learning about patient bed positions was very interesting. First, we were required to research and define each position. The positions we specifically learned about were:
Then, we took photos of our classmates demonstrating each position.
SAAD Tour!!
This week, we also took a tour of the SAAD Hospice Center. This tour was especially interesting because I got to learn about a facility I had previously no knowledge of. This facility was built out of the wood on which it was founded. Using the logs of the trees and their names to help organize their patient rooms. Since this is a Christian facility, it was built on top of written bible verses, which are also displayed in every room. One of my favorite aspects of this tour was the negative pressure room. Although they do not accept patients who need a negative pressure room, they are required by the State of Alabama to have one. It was really interesting to see and witness how this kind of engineering works. My class had an amazing time. This facility was so interesting to me to learn about and experience. I plan on returning as a volunteer soon!
