The Crime Scene
Today, we were presented with a fake crime scene and scenario. The background of the case is that it was located in a condominium. There was an old married couple who lived in this certain condominium, both of them were diagnosed with stage four cancer. The husband had been diagnosed for a few years and the wife was just recently diagnosed. The police officers arrived at the scene to find the wife dead upstairs and the husband sitting on the front porch, in a wheelchair. The goal of this scenario was to see if my team could decipher whether this was a "mercy killing" or a suicide. This is how we did it.
The Husband
The Crime Scene
First, we divided the team and gave everyone assignments before we even entered the crime scene. My job was to talk to the husband, keep the team on task, and take pictures. Arianna's job was to take detailed notes of the scene. Jameson and Mason were both taking pictures. I began talking to the husband once we arrived at the scene. The husband was in a state of shock, all he did was repeat the same three phrases.
"I don't know what I am going to do."
"How did this happen?"
"Can I talk to a priest?"
The Evidence We Gathered
Throughout the investigation, we discovered many different pieces of evidence to try to support our theory of suicide. The wife was killed by the suffocation of the bag on her head. At the crime scene, we discovered a book called The Final Solution. This book gave a step-by-step guide to killing yourself the same way she died. The book had only her fingerprints on it. We also found multiple magazines and evidence of the couple being extremely religious. The pills beside the bed were pain deliveries, which were unmarked. The coffee mug beside the bed was full of water, with only her fingerprints on it. We looked through every book, under every item, and investigated the whole scene as a whole. At the end of our time at the scene, my team had worked very well together and were able to come to a collective conclusion, which we presented the next day.
