Braille Cards and Capstone

This week in Biomed, we made Braille playing cards. These cards will be sent to the school for the deaf and blind. This was really fun because I got to learn Braille along with actually creating something that's going to make a difference in society. It was difficult at first because we had to make everything backwards in order to punch it in correctly. Once I figured it out, it was super easy. We used a brailler and stylus to make indentations on the cards. I did have a few mess-up cards, but luckily, we had extras for me to make up. We also worked more on our Capstone Projects with Mrs. Hammons. She helped me come up with a very strong intro that I am super excited about!!

The Lab
For this week's lab, we did a peanut butter and jelly lab. I was actually really good at it! Mrs. McCleery told me I might be the best sandwich maker she has ever had! It was really hard to not have my sight, so that obviously made making the sandwich harder. However, I have extensive sandwich-making experience, so it wasn’t that hard. I did struggle to find the trashcan, but once I did it was smooth sailing from there. It only took me five minutes, while it took my classmates around ten!! This was so much fun to do, and I got a snack. I loved this lab so much, it was so much fun!!
My OutReach
We also worked on our Outreach projects this week. I completed mine this Friday. It was so much fun. These 3rd Graders were so curious and tried almost all the food that I brought! They also had questions about things like potassium, muscle cramps, and the effects of certain foods. It was so much fun to be able to talk about something I am passionate about while someone was actually invested in what I was saying. My favorite part was when I finally finished, a little boy came up to me and said this was his favorite science class ever. That truly made my day because I was so nervous they wouldn’t enjoy my lab. But they did!!
