Forensics Week, Day 3: The Crime Scene

By; Detective Garside March 29th, 2023

The Crime Scene

On Wednesday, we were shown a mock crime scene to analyze. Detective Garsdie split our class into two groups to investigate the "murder". When we began our investigation, we learned that Mr. Nease's wife had been found with a gunshot wound to the head. Mr. Nease was a live actor in our scene. One part of my group was left to question him while I walked into the actual scene to take photos and collect evidence. Soon, the rest of my group followed me into the scene, allowing Mr. Nease to flee the scene with a bloody towel in hand.

While investigating the scene, we found multiple pieces of evidence, a computer, two phones, a gun, and most importantly the body. We found Mrs. Nease lying on the ground with a straight gunshot wound in her head. The way she was laying indicated that she was sitting at the time she was shot, this can also be proved by the blood splatter left on the wall. The wound was made by the gun lying next to her and was determined to be a form of soft contact.

After we moved on from the body, we checked all the evidence for fingerprints; such as the mug, the computer, the gun, and the victim's phone. After we gathered all the evidence we could, we were sent back to our classroom to deliberate. Our main goal was to determine whether MRs. Nease committed suicide or was murdered by her husband.
