What is Pharmacy?

Pharmacy is the science or practice of preparing and dispensing medicinal drugs. The Pharmacist is required to know all the medications a patient is taking. For example, if doctor A prescribes a drug to the patient and doctor B prescribes a contradicting drug that might counteract the other drug the pharmacist is supposed to be aware of this. The pharmacist must know the difference between safety and efficacy. Efficacy is the ability to produce a desired or intended result.

What is Pharmacology?

Pharmacology is the study of the effects that drugs have on/in the body. The study of Pharmacology requires you to know how all drugs work, how one drug may affect another, the side effects of the drugs, and what the drug is actually preventing. Some major drug contradictions you need to know about are that many drugs do their job, and get rid of the problem, but they give off more/worse side effects than before. Another excellent example of what a pharmacologist must know is cholesterol levels. For example, if someone has high cholesterol and their pharmacist wants to lower their cholesterol, they must take the medication at night. That way the medication will prevent the creation of cholesterol before it has even begun to develop.
